About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer based remotely, ideally 90km drive from Lisbon- able and willing to travel to meet in person with other colleagues which could potentially be a few times a month.

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will design and implement strategic features for our core product Wyden and quantitative trading strategies for our clients. The successful candidate will be working with the latest Cloud technologies. This is an extremely exciting time to join an ambitious high-growth Fintech with a strong client base and market demand for a well-established solution. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

Design and implementation of future releases of Wyden including key infrastructure components such as low latency order management, execution algorithms, smart order routing, event handling, and business services 

Close collaboration with product management, development team, head of development and customers 

Distributed systems engineering and running services in the cloud environment 

Following current industry trends and incorporating best practices into the solution 

Understanding of security, authentication and authorization mechanisms 

The ideal candidate would bring:

Must have: 

-A minimum of 8–10 years of engineering experience. This is a hard criterion, and candidates who do not meet this level of experience will not be considered.

-Exceptional proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin.

-Strong use of modern AI-assisted development tools.

-Bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

-Strong experience designing and building distributed systems.

-Experience in financial services, trading, capital markets and/or crypto is a strong plus, but not mandatory.

-Strong knowledge of the following technical areas:

-Distributed systems and architectures

-Asynchronous and event-driven systems

-Messaging systems, including Kafka and/or RabbitMQ

-Idempotency and replayability

-API and schema versioning

-Resilience, failure handling and fault-tolerant system design

-Performance optimisation and low-latency systems

-AWS, including cloud-based application development and integration testing

-Container orchestration with Docker, Kubernetes and AWS EKS

-Monitoring and observability tooling

-CI/CD and process automation

-Networking concepts

-Distributed caching

-Reactive programming

-Performance testing

-Clean coding and test automation

-Agile values, continuous improvement and iterative development

Ideally you are no more than a 90km drive from Lisbon and able and willing to travel to meet in person with other colleagues which could potentially be a few times a month TBC
