Senior Backend Engineer (f/m/x)

Position Overview

DB Global Technology is Deutsche Bank’s technology centre in Central and Eastern Europe. Since its set-up in 2013, Bucharest Technology Centre (BEX) has constantly proven its capacity to deliver global technology products and services, playing a dynamic role in the Bank’s technology transformation.

As part of the TDI PB Investment Solutions / Global Investments & Capital Markets Domain, the Senior Backend Engineer will play a key role in delivering technology capabilities supporting strategic TOM initiative workstreams across investment and instrument data management. The role will drive the implementation of scalable, resilient, and high-performing processing and integration solutions, contribute to the modernization and standardization of the technology landscape and data platforms, including PDB as the global golden source for instrument data. Working closely with business analysts, architects, and technology teams, the engineer will design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend services and data integration and processing solutions, ensuring the delivery of robust, secure, and sustainable platform capabilities aligned with the target operating model.

Responsibilities:

• Ability to identify and solve complex technical problems and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment
• Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by following good practices and habits
• Develop, test and document Java-based software components in accordance with requirements
• Contribute to all stages of software development lifecycle
• Identify and resolve any technical issue arising
• Participate in peer-reviews of solution designs and related code
• Create design documentation
• Plan and support releases
• Work in a scaled Agile working environment
• Be part of a global and diverse team

Skills:

Technical expertise

• 10+ years of Java development experience
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new engineering frameworks, tools and practices
• Strong proficiency in Java SE fundamentals, including the Collections Framework, Generics, and Exception Handling
• Hands-on experience with modern Java features (Java 17 or higher), including Streams API, Lambda expressions, and Records
• Deep understanding of multithreading, concurrency patterns, JVM internals and performance optimization, including systematic debugging and JVM tuning
• Proven ability to write testable code using JUnit and Mockito for comprehensive unit and integration testing
• Ability to conduct thorough code reviews and mentor junior developers on advanced Java concepts.
• Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.

Architecture & integration

• Experience with microservice-oriented and event-driven architectures, including asynchronous communication patterns and API management concepts
• In-depth experience with Spring Framework, including Spring Boot
• Experience designing and integrating RESTful and SOAP-based services
• Previous experience with application servers (any of the following: JBoss, Tomcat, WebLogic, WebSphere).
  
   

Cloud & DevOps

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)/ OpenShift
• Experience with Kubernetes/Docker
• Knowledge of TeamCity/Jenkins, Maven, GIT, Atlassian tools ecosystem
• In-depth understanding of SDLC.
  
   

Professional Skills

• High degree of autonomy, initiative, and ownership
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and collaboration skills
• Language skills, fluence in English, German language is a plus

Nice to have:

• Previous experience in a Technical Lead or Backend Lead role
• Understanding of software design patterns
• Message brokers: JMS/Kafka/RabbitMQ/IBM MQ/Solace
• Experience with supporting live critical systems
• Experience in Capital Markets, preferably within Trading, Investment, or Securities Processing platforms
• Experience in large-scale transformation or modernization initiatives within a global financial institution
