Head of R&D High Power Devices & Components

The Head of Research & Development (R&D) – High Power Devices & Components is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the interdisciplinary development team. The primary focus is the design, optimization, and implementation of high-power RF devices and components specifically tailored for plasma generation applications.

Your tasks

• Lead, mentor, and scale an interdisciplinary team of specialists, including Hardware (HW), Firmware (FW), and RF Architects.
• Foster a high-performance culture that encourages innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct periodic performance reviews and define professional development paths (coaching, mentoring and training) for team members.
• Contribute to the overarching product development strategy and ensure its rigorous implementation through systematic project management.
• Oversee the full R&D lifecycle - from initial concept and simulation to prototype validation and series production readiness.
• Evaluate and initiate strategic partnerships with external entities, including universities and research institutes, to drive entrepreneurial innovation.
• Maintain seamless communication and technical alignment with R&D hubs in Munich, Berlin, and Dresden.
• Collaborate closely with various production sites to ensure ""Design for Manufacturing"" (DfM) and smooth technology transfers.
• Partner with R&D Product Management to align technical capabilities with market requirements and customer roadmaps.
• Provide regular, high-level briefings and progress reports to the Senior Director of R&D.
• Manage department budgets, resource allocation, and project timelines to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Your qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Communications Engineering, or a related technical field.
• A Master’s degree or a PhD in these fields is highly appreciated, but not mandatory.
• Extensive experience in R&D, specifically within the field of RF technology, high-power electronics, or plasma physics.
• Proven experience in building and developing technical teams and managing complex, multi-year development projects.
• Foreign languages: Knowledge of the English language (written, read, spoken) - minimum B2 level.
• Strategic Vision: Ability to provide clear direction during dynamic or ambiguous phases and translate business goals into technical milestones.
• Communication Mastery: Exceptional ability to distill complex technical data into clear, actionable information for diverse stakeholders.
• Analytical Thinking: A structured approach to problem-solving and the ability to chart new paths to achieve ambitious technological goals.
• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with modern R&D workflows, including simulation tools, PLM systems, and agile methodologies.
