VFX Artist (remote)

As a VFX Artist , you will author and integrate real-time visual effects that give our game worlds impact and readability — spells, impacts, environmental atmospherics, destruction, and gameplay feedback. You will work closely with art direction, animation, design, and engineering to deliver effects that are stylistically on-target, gameplay-clear, and performant within engine budgets.

For which tasks (responsibilities)?

• Design, create, and integrate visually stunning real-time VFX (particles, meshes, trails, ribbons, decals, shaders) from start to finish.

• Work closely with Design, Concept Art, Animation, and Engineering to develop clean, highly readable effects that support gameplay initiatives, mechanics, and overall game feel.

• Author supporting assets, including flipbooks, sub-UV sheets, gradients, noise, meshes, and vertex-animated (VAT) assets.

• Build and tune materials and shaders for effects (Unreal Material Editor, Unity Shader Graph, HLSL, or proprietary tools).

• Set dress environments and cinematics with atmospheric and situational VFX.

• Ensure all assets are built efficiently, optimizing for performance budgets (overdraw, particle counts, draw calls, LODs) across different platforms.

• Test, troubleshoot, fix bugs, and solve integration and profiling issues.

• Concept, propose, and present creative ideas, providing active input specific to assigned tasks.

What kind of professional are we looking for?

• 3+ years of professional experience creating real-time VFX for games.

• Strong portfolio / reel demonstrating stylized and/or realistic real-time effects.

• Proficiency with a real-time VFX system: Unreal Niagara (or Cascade) and/or Unity VFX Graph / Shuriken.

• Solid grasp of VFX fundamentals: timing, spacing, shape, motion, color, and light.

• Shader / material authoring for effects (node-based and/or HLSL).

• Texture and flipbook authoring in Photoshop and/or Substance Designer; comfort with After Effects for sheet compositing.

• Understanding of real-time performance constraints and optimization on target platforms.

  Bonus

  • Fluid / pyro simulation (EmberGen, Houdini) and VAT workflows.

  • Experience with gameplay animation pipelines or mocap-adjacent workflows.

  • Technical art skills — scripting, tool building, or custom shader work.

  • Experience shipping titles across PC / console / mobile.
