Senior QA Engineer
Celestica International LP
Req ID: 138751
Remote Position: Hybrid
Region: Europe
Country: Romania
State/Province: Oradea
City: Oradea
Summary
As a Senior QA Engineer, you will drive the quality assurance and testing strategy for the critical technical transition and modernization of our core Supply Chain Management (SCM) applications. Operating within a global, multi-technology environment, you will validate the migration of legacy Java applications into a scalable .NET 10 architecture. In this strategic role, you will establish global QA standards, architect the test automation framework from scratch and coordinate the testing efforts of a distributed QA team across North America, Europe and Asia.
Detailed Description
As a Senior Specialist, you will apply advanced Quality Engineering expertise to solve complex problems of diverse scope. This is a proactive quality engineering role where you will champion a "Shift-Left" testing culture, analyzing technical specifications early in the development lifecycle to identify logic gaps before coding begins. Because this is a complex modernization project, you will focus on reverse-engineering and testing the legacy Java systems, analyzing existing workflows to extract critical business logic and ensure complete functional parity in the new .NET ecosystem.
You will have a high degree of technical ownership, defining the test automation framework from scratch using modern tools (e.g., Playwright using TypeScript or C#) to align with the development team's stack. Furthermore, you will act as the global QA coordinator for this project, setting standards, managing test plans and providing technical mentorship to QA engineers located in Toronto and Asia. You will also engage directly with cross-functional business stakeholders and diverse end-users to understand varied workflows, leading User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure that the iterative delivery of new features seamlessly integrates with the modernized architecture.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
● Define and lead the global QA strategy for the application rewrite project, setting testing standards, methodologies and workflows for QA engineers in Oradea, Toronto and Asia.
● Ensure absolute functional parity between the legacy Java/Java ADF applications and the newly rewritten .NET applications, preventing regressions during the modernization process.
● Actively participate in requirements gathering and business alignment discussions, analyzing specifications early in the development lifecycle (Shift-Left) to identify edge cases and logic gaps, while designing and authoring comprehensive test plans and test cases (both manual and automated).
● Extract and validate business logic by thoroughly testing existing features in the legacy system to help the team accurately translate them into new technical requirements.
● Engage directly with business owners and diverse end-users to map out real-world usage, understanding how different personas utilize the application to ensure all distinct workflows and scenarios are comprehensively covered in the test cases.
● Ensure comprehensive UI feature parity, verifying that all capabilities of the legacy interfaces (e.g., complex data grids, specific workflows) are successfully ported, while proactively proposing UI/UX enhancements where applicable.
● Architect and implement a Test Automation framework from scratch for critical application paths, utilizing modern, scalable tools (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium) while fostering strong collaboration with the .NET development team.
● Define and execute Performance and Load Testing strategies (using tools like k6 or Apache JMeter) to guarantee that the modernized .NET applications match or exceed the performance, responsiveness and scalability of the legacy systems.
● Validate complex data migrations and integrations, using advanced SQL to verify data integrity between the application layers and the Oracle DB and establish robust Test Data Management (TDM) practices to create, manage and, where needed, safely mask test datasets without compromising production environments.
● Support continuous and iterative delivery, taking primary technical ownership of the legacy rewrite testing strategy, while also guiding the QA lifecycle for brand-new features developed simultaneously.
● Coordinate and facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) sessions directly with business stakeholders and end-users to secure final feature sign-off.
● Act as a technical mentor and coordinator for the extended global QA team, conducting test plan reviews, sharing best practices, ensuring consistent quality across all timezones and defining clear QA metrics/dashboards to provide stakeholders with visibility into application quality and release readiness.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
● Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in Quality Assurance and Software Testing, with a strong background in testing large-scale web applications, complex business logic and system integrations.
● Demonstrated ability to drive testing strategies and share best practices, possessing strong teamwork skills and the leadership qualities needed to guide a collaborative QA effort.
● Strong capability in Requirements Analysis, with the ability to sit at the table with business stakeholders and architects to challenge, refine and validate technical specifications.
● Hands-on experience architecting Test Automation frameworks using modern programming languages (e.g., TypeScript, JavaScript or C#) and tools (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, SpecFlow/Reqnroll, NUnit/xUnit), backed by a strong foundation in testing principles and the ability to adapt to new tools when necessary.
● Experience with Performance and Load Testing tools (e.g., k6, JMeter, Gatling or similar) to validate the speed and stability of high-load distributed systems.
● Proficiency in API Testing (using tools like Postman, Swagger or RestSharp) and understanding of RESTful architectures.
● Solid expertise in Database Testing and SQL, capable of writing complex queries to validate data integrity in relational databases (Oracle DB experience is highly valued).
● Excellent verbal and written English skills for cross-cultural collaboration, negotiating requirements and bridging the communication gap between non-technical business users and .NET developers.
● Flexibility to occasionally participate in technical discussions, business requirements alignment and specifications review with managers, QA team members and stakeholders in the Canada timezone (EST).
● Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment with a solid understanding of iterative delivery, CI/CD integration and continuous improvement.
● Basic familiarity or openness to exploring Java applications to understand existing legacy workflows is considered an asset.
● Understanding of Supply Chain Management (SCM) processes or ERP workflows is considered an asset (openness and willingness to learn these business processes is highly valued).
● Openness to utilizing modern development tools and AI-assisted engineering practices for test generation and maintenance while applying strong critical thinking to review, refine and take full ownership of the final implementation.
